Today on the Slate Book Review, I have a new piece about Julie Schumacher’s deliciously wicked new novel, Dear Committee Members, which takes the form of a veritable torrent of letters of recommendation, on “behalf” of the students, colleagues and “friends” of beleaguered English professor Jason Fitger, whose office is in a toxic construction zone, whose students are either insufferable Tracy Flicks or unappreciated sad-sacks, whose ex-wife and ex-girlfriend are in cahoots about how much they dislike him, whose career as a novelist is as pathetic as his not-really-a-genius former MFA mentor, whose department is in receivership and full of back-biting psychopaths. READ. IT. NOW. IT. IS. FUN. The end.
