Recently, someone very important to me was diagnosed with cancer. I think a very common reaction when you get news like this is to feel utterly, completely helpless. I know I definitely do. So something I am doing to feel less helpless is that this year, my husband and I have committed, possibly rather recklessly, to raise $1000 for cancer research to take part in Pedal the Cause, a St. Louis road race (“race”? event?) that raises funds for the Siteman Cancer Center and St. Louis Children’s Hospital. Unlike all the other shit I do, this is actually important, and although it will not provide any direct help or cure to the person in whose honor I’m riding, it may help fund the research that makes it so the next generation doesn’t have to lose friends and loved ones, or watch them go through chemo or radiation or all of the other horrors that come with the diagnosis. I hope you will consider clicking here to read my rider profile and that you might be moved to donate $1 or $5 to a great cause. Self-indulgent harpy screeching will resume accordingly soon.
